Today I can proudly present my new domain name:

alexanderkiel.net

You can continue visiting my homepage using my old domain name alexk.homeip.net, but you will be automatically redirected to www.alexanderkiel.net. But I recommend you to update your bookmarks and/or links. Nevertheless alexk.homeip.net will stay under my control so no need to hurry.

Why did I use alexk.homeip.net until now?

Because in the past I had always my homepage at home. With a dynamic IP you can’t have a real domain name like alexanderkiel.net. You need a static IP or at least two name servers with a static IP which are responsible for your domain. So I took the easy route and used dnydns.org for years with the sub-domain alexk.homeip.net.

In September 2007 my flat-sharing community canceled and we terminated our DSL internet connection. Since than I use my mobile with UMTS as internet connection to stay flexible. All than means that I currently don’t have the facilities to operate a web server from home. First I moved my homepage and other things to Georgs home server. But after he had some problems with it I moved the hole thing to Jörgs server. In December 2007 Georg and I decided to rent a VPS at hosteurope.de in order to be free from such home servers.

Since Georg and I have this VPS, I thought about to get a real domain. So now in April 2008 I did it finally.
